Fairfield Yarns

My first visit to Fairfield Yarns in Bury. Dave who runs the business, buys surplus yarns from factories, and his shop is an overwhelming experience just in the sheer volume and variety of stock. I’ve heard a lot of machine knitters go there to buy their yarns, and indeed while I was there I met Caroline Raybould, a professional freelance knitwear designer who had travelled up from Birmingham. She seemed to know what she was on about regards the differences within the yarns, but I found myself struggling to choose something. In the end I left with 3 large cones of white, navy and black lambswool and a couple of blank punchcards to scan.

The shop apparently used to be a machine knitting school – I’m wondering if it may be the one mentioned in this record in the North West Film Archive?
