This week I experimented with a new technique – slip stitch – which allows you to knit more than 2 colours in a row. It’s a slower process (especially without a colour changer) but it opens up a lot of design possibilities. Meanwhile, May showed me the patterning possibilities of tuck stitch, creating some textured samples. She also told me about her experience of being a machine knitter in its heyday, knitting jumpers and cardigans for friends and neighbours – often with orders 3 months in advance!
Iris, Kath and Barbara continued their experiments on the chuky machine, almost coming unravelled at one point. Plus they showed some of the soft toys that have been created for the NEPHRA stall, combining machine knit panels with hand knit and crochet detail.
